We have been racing the clock to get the first book in the Positive Psychology News Series out in time for the holiday season. It is now available on both CreateSpace and on Amazon.
The title of the book is Resilience: How to Navigate Life’s Curves. Here’s an excerpt from the Introduction:
This little book explores an important topic in the field of positive psychology: Why do some people go through hard times and become stronger and more appreciative of their lives? Do they think differently than other people do? Do they behave differently? What can we learn from them that can make other people’s lives better?
Positive psychology is an empirical discipline. Researchers formulate ideas and test them. They work to discover the difference between common wisdom and common mistakes. How well do certain approaches really work in practice with large populations? What tools or techniques really work? Those of us working in applied positive psychology are concerned with another question. How do we make the growing body of empirical research available to the general population so that it can make a difference in people’s lives?
The purpose of this little book is to make findings in positive psychology accessible to people who do not want to read research papers, but still have a curiosity about what research tells us. It conveys the messages with stories, examples, and suggested actions that are immediately useful.
If you have been wanting to share some of the messages of PPND with family or friends who aren’t as interested in the research aspects as you are, this book may be just what you need.
This is just the first in a series of books to take PPND articles to a wider audience. The next, already underway, is on Gratitude.
The book is now available on Amazon.
