Hi, I’m Carin Rockind. Welcome to PPND Bites where we give you 60-second helpings of the positive psychology news you need to know. It’s summer and I know I wanna go hit the beach and maybe you do too but did you know that between 80 and 90% of all women dislike their bodies? I mean, hate their bodies. The question is can positive psychology help?
A research study of 318 participants where the participants took scores of self-efficacy, feminist ideology, ordered or disordered eating and positive or negative body image found that feminist ideology actually did support having a better body image and even more so, having self-efficacy, the belief that given your strengths, you can achieve your goals, self-efficacy highly predicted positive body image and lowered disordered eating. So, this is an opportunity for all of us to support others in having higher self-efficacy and feel great about themselves that they can hit the beach. With that, I hope that this helps you take a bite out of happiness. Bye for now.
