Hello wonderful readers of PPND,
We have a story for you – with heroes and evil monsters. Once upon a time, there was a beautiful community of people interested in positive psychology. They would regularly come to PositivePsychologyNews.com and read new tips and techniques based on research, and they would debate with each other. They debated long and hard and the discussion sections and comments grew and grew. And there was a mountainous enthusiasm each time somebody’s favorite author posted an article, and people rushed to the site on that day.
This community was supported by a powerful Internet host, and all the community information was held together in one secure, nobody-can-enter location. And then, one day, the secure location dropped out. Literally. This company was highly recommended, and initially had great client service and support. Then we heard they were bought by another company, and within two months there were two outages, and now they literally do not answer phone or email, and we think they have poof! disappeared.
We have now moved to mediatemple, the host for ABC, Sony, and Starbucks, among many others. We feel a little more secure now. Our castle is starting to build up again, the gardens are flourishing, and we’re rebuilding the fallen furniture.
We still haven’t completed the transition. The last article before October was published July 23, 2009. We’re busy restoring articles about savoring (August) and productivity/performance (September). They will return.
What this means for you:
Your help creating a new world. We want to ask your thoughts on creating the community you like, the articles you come to read, and the overall appearance and layout of the site. This is our first ever SURVEY. We want to know whether you want more discussion forums (see the left sidebar on the home page, below the comments), more articles about people who have used positive psychology, more interviews with researchers… we want to know.
Your patience as we bring the old world forward. We want you to know that we will get the past articles back up on the site (articles July 18 through the end of September need to be re-inserted along with the comments for these articles, and some pictures are missing). We may be able to do this automatically, and, if not, then manually, so you may not see some of the articles you have loved for a little while.
Your understanding as we reshape the appearance of the site. There will be some glitches along the way, for example the reappearance of each article right after the comment section.
We’re taking a positive psychology lesson in resilience. Pshew.
We would love to know YOUR THOUGHTS! Seriously. We are rebuilding this site, and we want to know what you love best about PPND, so that we can make sure to keep those elements. We’re looking at the strengths of the situation, and it’s easier to set up a new look than to recreate the old look. So we will be able to highlight some functions or de-emphasize others. So let us know – we’re aiming to do what makes you happy. Surveymonkey survey here. Our goal is to have over 80% participation in this survey by people who read PPND daily. Let us know what works best for you. A always, we invite you to leave comments directly on this article. And to take the survey HERE.
